One reason I fell in love with Austin, aside from the food and music, is the film community. When I lived there I got to see Quentin Tarrantino in town showing his films before they played anywhere outside New York & LA, and to show old prints of films from his private collection and to talk about why he loved some obscure, hard to find, and sometimes hard to love movies. Austin is also home to Matthew McConaughey, Richard Linklatter, was Sandra Bullock for a time, and of course Robert Rodriguez who writes, directs, edits, scores, casts, and generally does most everything except star in everything from kid-flix to gory slasher films.
One of my staff (Thanx Savi) directed me to the fact that a bunch of Rodriquez DVD's have segments of a series that RR call's his "10 minute cooking class".
For the sake of experiementation, I'm going to try to embed a couple of them here. Please let me know if you're able to view them...
Sin City Breakfast Tacos (maybe we should change the name of our brunch item to match?)
Puerco Pibil (which I've always known as "cochinita pibil" and I once did with a whole pig in a hole in the backyard in San Francisco, the Mayan guys I worked with were so excited that I brought the head into work the next day, so they could get in at the cheeks and stuff.
On a separate and sad note, I want to send best wishes and condolences on to a friend of mine, and especially close friend of Jennifer, someone very close passed away recently and our hearts and thoughts go out to those who are grieving. May your grief be sufficient, but brief, and may your memories of your loved one last a lifetime.
